Three Effective PTSD Interventions Most Therapists Don’t Know (USA 2018)

Most people naturally recover from trauma. What can we learn from them to help us treat PTSD more effectively? Padesky reviews findings from researchers Ehlers and Clark in the United Kingdom and highlights effective interventions developed by them that have not been widely disseminated in the United States. These interventions foster client collaboration in PTSD treatment, identify the key moments in traumatic memories that are most important to address, and help clients put the trauma in the past so they can reclaim a full and engaged life.
Each intervention is illustrated with clinical examples that show therapists how to use these methods in their own practice.
OBJECTIVES: Upon completion of this session, attendees will be able to:
- Identify three ways people who develop PTSD differ from people who naturally recover from trauma
- Describe reliving methods used to identify emotional hot spots and gaps in trauma memories
- Apply “then” and “now” methods to places and circumstances of trauma
