SUMMARY:Action and Dialogue in Psychotherapy: Dance of Equals (SP6)
DESCRIPTION:VIRTUAL EVENT – Dr Christine Padesky presents a speech at The Evolution of Psychotherapy 2020 Virtual Experience\, sponsored by the Milton H. Erickson Foundation. \nAction and Dialogue in Psychotherapy: Dance of Equals – 1 hr speech (SP6)\nDESCRIPTION\nThe evolution of Cognitive Behavior Therapies (CBT) has often involved a tug-of-war between those who emphasize behavioral interventions\, those who focus on cognitive inquiries and dialogues\, and those who advocate for mindfulness and acceptance. Padesky shares her current integrative vision of CBT as a collaborative quest for discovery that can incorporate all these perspectives. In her approach\, therapists emphasize action therapy methods to elicit emotion\, full body experiencing\, beliefs\, imagery\, behaviors\, interpersonal and cultural contexts in order to foster deeper learning and change. Padesky offers a collaborative\, strengths-based model in which the full power of psychotherapy is revealed when action therapy methods and Socratic dialogue interact in a dance of equals. \nLEARNING OBJECTIVES\nName three action-based therapy methods\nList the four stages of Socratic dialogue\nDescribe one principle that can guide choice of therapy methods \nAttendees can connect with colleagues and partners in the virtual exhibit hall.\nAll times listed are in PST and are subject to change. \nREGISTER NOW\nhttps://www.evolutionofpsychotherapy.com/rates \nSHARE with your Mental Health Colleagues

SUMMARY:Five Strategies for Managing Guilt and Shame (WS18)
DESCRIPTION:VIRTUAL EVENT – Dr Christine Padesky presents a workshop at The Evolution of Psychotherapy 2020 Virtual Experience\, sponsored by the Milton H. Erickson Foundation. \nFive Strategies for Managing Guilt and Shame – 2 hr workshop (WS18)\nDESCRIPTION\nGuilt and shame can be challenging emotions to address in therapy. More than half of all clients report keeping secrets from their therapists\, often linked to shameful emotions (Bauman & Hill\, 2016). Padesky demonstrates in detail how to use five strategies from Mind Over Mood (Greenberger & Padesky\, 2016) that help clients disclose\, understand\, and manage guilt and shame: rating of the seriousness of actions\, use of a responsibility pie\, devising reparations for hurting someone\, breaking the silence surrounding shame\, and use of a self-forgiveness worksheet. Structured exercises offer opportunities to practice several of these methods. This workshop allows time for questions and answers as well as discussion of how to handle clients who blame others rather than accepting their own role in interpersonal difficulties\, why reparations are not indicated in survivor’s guilt\, and other related topics. \nLEARNING OBJECTIVES\nName one important difference between guilt and shame.\nIdentify two strategies ideally suited for working with people who overestimate their responsibility and are prone to frequent guilt or shame.\nDescribe two approaches that can help clients feel safe in revealing secrets linked to shame. \nAttendees can connect with colleagues and partners in the virtual exhibit hall.\nAll times listed are in PST and are subject to change. \nREGISTER NOW\nhttps://www.evolutionofpsychotherapy.com/rates \nSHARE with your Mental Health Colleagues

SUMMARY:Familial and Cultural Influences on Young Adulthood (USA 2020)
DESCRIPTION:LIVE INTERACTIVE SEMINAR – by invitation only \nPROGRAM DESCRIPTION \nYoung adulthood is a challenging time for many that can be made either easier or more difficult due to familial and cultural factors. Some family cultural practices promote independence and others foster interfamilial interdependence or dependence. At this time\, the COVID-19 pandemic provides a new cultural context that can intensify the impact of familial and cultural influences on young adult lives\, especially when these adults are living with their parents during the pandemic. At the same time\, the presence of young adults in a household can be a net negative or net positive for parents and other adults present in the home. Today’s Leading Edge Interactive Seminar explores the intergenerational and cultural factors that affect multigenerational families living in the same household with a special focus on their implications for young adults and their parents. Relevant interventions drawn from family therapy will be discussed. \nEDUCATIONAL OBJECTIVES \n\nDESCRIBE two different cultural examples of the impact of families on young adult development.\nIDENTIFY one family therapy intervention that can be implemented during Covid-19 teletherapy.\n\nREFERENCES [Readings can be found in pdf form via search in scholar.google.com] \nGuessoum\, S. SUMMARY:(CANCELED) - Best Practices: Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) for Suicide (USA 2020)
DESCRIPTION:Due to COVID 19 restrictions\, Marshfield Clinic Health System has cancelled The Behavioral Health Conference featuring Best Practices: Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) for Suicide. \nMARSHFIELD\, WISCONSIN – 2 day workshop by Christine A. Padesky\, PhD \nCANCELLED – Best Practices: Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) for Suicide\nAlthough “best practices” always include some familiar practices\, this workshop is designed to enhance skills for therapists at all experience levels. It emphasizes strategies to manage common obstacles encountered by therapists working with suicidal clients. Even the most experienced therapists can benefit from learning nuanced applications of interventions to improve therapy outcomes. Join us for this state of the art workshop that reveals a wealth of “Best Practices in CBT for Suicide.” \nOBJECTIVESUpon conclusion of this activity\, participants will be able to: \n\nREVIEW how to use a structured interview to assess suicide risk\nIDENTIFY and strengthen reasons for living\nCONSTRUCT individualized safety plans\nEXPLAIN how to incorporate client strengths into treatment\nREVIEW how to guide clients in the creation of coping cards\nPRACTICE building hope using a “hope kit”\nIDENTIFY and “spoil” suicidal imagery\nDEVELOP positive future imagery\nFORMULATE a suicide relapse management planConstruct individualized safety plans\n\nWORKSHOP DESCRIPTION \nTherapists report greater anxiety about client suicide than any other clinical challenge. Unfortunately\, anxiety tends to foster avoidance. Therefore\, many therapists avoid asking in-depth questions about suicidal intent and do not learn how to effectively implement the detailed inquiries and interventions that are shown to decrease suicide risk. This workshop is designed to increasetherapist confidence and ability to successfully address suicide in clinical practice. \nAll therapists need to have a high level of skill in assessment of suicide risk. Participants in this workshop will be able to apply evidence-based methods for suicide assessment and implement interventions that can lower suicide risk\, reduce suicide attempts\, and increase client safety. Cognitive behavior therapy (CBT) methods taught include use of Jobes’ structured Suicide Status Forminterview and a variety of creative cognitive and behavioral suicide interventions derived from the work of Aaron T. Beck’s suicide prevention team: identifying and strengthening reasons for living\, development of safety plans\, use of coping cards\, construction of a “hope kit\,” and methods for working with suicidal imagery. \nTo enhance learning\, participants observe skillful live demonstrations by Dr. Padesky and then try out best practice methods in role plays and guided exercises. Detailed handouts include key forms to help sustain learning post-workshop. While suicide is a serious topic\, this workshop is designed to be engaging and uplifting. It provides an evidence-based foundation for therapist practice so you can honestly communicate positive therapy expectations to your suicidal clients. \nIt is encouraging that each decade brings fresh knowledge and new findings to advance the successful treatment of suicide. Although “best practices” always include some familiar practices\, this workshop is designed to enhance skills for therapists at all experience levels. It emphasizes strategies to manage common obstacles encountered by therapists working with suicidal clients.Even the most experienced therapists can benefit from learning nuanced applications of interventions to improve therapy outcomes. Join us for this state of the art workshop that reveals a wealth of “Best Practices in CBT for Suicide.” \nPRESENTER: Dr Christine A Padesky \nTARGET AUDIENCE \nThis activity is intended for physicians\, psychologists\, psychiatrists\, residents\, nurse practitioners\, physician assistants\, registerednurses\, school psychologists\, guidance counselors\, social workers and other health care professionals. \nLOCATIONRobert F. Held at the CityCube in Berlin.\nTITLE OF INVITED ADDRESS: Action\, Dialogue & Discovery: Reflections on Socratic Questioning 25 Years Later \nDATE and TIME of Padesky’s Address:  Thursday\, July 18\, 2019 @ 12:00 – 1:00 pm \nKeynote Presenter: Christine A. Padesky\, PhD \nKeynote Description: \nToday’s keynote summarizes the evolution of my thinking about Socratic methods over the past 25 years. The original 4-stage model of Socratic questioning is intact but we now emphasize its collaborative and interactive nature by calling it Socratic dialogue. Discovery is still the ultimate goal but the nature of these discoveries has expanded over the decades. In addition to examining existing beliefs\, we now employ Socratic dialogue in the context of action therapy methods to identify strengths\, guide development of new beliefs and behaviours\, and inject greater potential for discovery into practical self-help exercises. \nSocratic questioning\, now called Socratic dialogue\, is no longer a chair-bound\, predominantly cognitive intervention. Instead\, it is most effective when paired with action-packed therapy methods such as behavioural experiments\, role plays\, imagery\, and interactive writing. [su_quote]Pairing these action methods with Socratic dialogue increases engagement\, elicits here and now data\, and ensures discoveries are more memorable.[/su_quote] \nOne of the most frequently downloaded papers from our website is my first keynote address\, delivered at the London EABCT conference in 1993 and titled\, “Socratic questioning: Changing minds or guiding discovery?” It described and illustrated four stages of Socratic questioning and argued that the purpose of Socratic methods in CBT should be to guide discovery\, not change minds. \nKey References \nKazantzis\, N.\, Fairburn\, C.G.\, Padesky\, C.A.\, Reinecke\, M.\, & Teeseon\, M. Padesky\, PhD\, Co-Founder of Center for Cognitive Therapy in Huntington Beach\, California is a Distinguished Founding Fellow of the Academy of Cognitive Therapy and a leading CBT innovator. Along with Kathleen Mooney\, PhD\, she created Strengths-Based CBT which helps clients construct new beliefs and behavioural strategies in order to improve overall functioning and relationships. Included in this approach is a 4-step protocol which helps people build a personal model of resilience. Padesky has taught more than 500 workshops on 5 continents\, provides consultation for therapists\, hospitals and mental health clinics worldwide (www.padesky.com) and develops audio & video therapist training materials (www.store.padesky.com). Her presentations integrate theory\, empiricism\, creativity\, audience interaction\, practical skills and humour. \nThe British Association of Behavioural and Cognitive Therapies (BABCP) awarded Padesky an Honorary Fellowship in 2017.In addition\, she is recipient of BABCP’s Most Influential International CBT Therapist award\, the California Psychological Association’s Distinguished Contribution to Psychology award\, and the Academy of Cognitive Therapy’s Aaron T. Beck Award for her enduring contributions to the field. \nPadesky is co-author of five books\, including Mind Over Mood\, 2nd Edition (www.mindovermood.com). With over a million copies sold world-wide in 23 languages\, the first edition was named the most influential CBT book of all time by BABCP and was an inaugural winner of the Book of Merit award from ABCT. The second edition of Mind Over Mood was 2nd place winner of the 2016 American Journal of Nursing Book of the Year Award\, Consumer Health Category. Two more books await publication — the Clinician’s Guide to Mind Over Mood\, 2nd Edition (in press\, Guilford Publications\, with Dennis Greenberger) and a book on Socratic methods and guided discovery processes in CBT (publication expected 2020\, Oxford University Press\, co-edited with Helen Kennerley). Her other books include Collaborative Case Conceptualization (co-authored with Kuyken and Dudley). \nCONFERENCE THEME: Cognitive and Behavioural Therapies at the Crossroads \nA Description From the Organizers: The theme of this Congress is important in several ways. Firstly\, CBT is evolving at a rapid pace and in many directions\, such that we may well be at the crossroads in terms of maintaining a unified field of theory and practice. Secondly\, the development of an integrated and comprehensive bio-psycho-social models\, with which to underpin clinical practice\, remains a fundamental goal. Thirdly\, the variety of problems\, including both mental and physical disorders\, being targeted with CBT interventions by worldwide health systems are constantly expanding. Fourthly\, after over half a century of progress\, our field stands ready to emerge as an internationally recognized approach to tackling global health issues and must meet this challenge effectively. \nCONFERENCE WEBSITE:  http://wcbct2019.org \nCONFERENCE MAILING LIST: sign up for the Conference MAILING LIST and receive regular updates\, e-newsletters and notification of the opening of registration and submission of papers. Making Clinical Decisions at the Crossroads of Treatment and Relational Processes in the CBTs” \nDATE of Panel Discussion: Thursday\, July 18\, 2019 from 8:30 to 10:00 am \nDESCRIPTION: Advances in the science underpinning Cognitive and Behavior Therapies (CBTs) are bringing us much closer to a point of clarity regarding what works for whom\, and under which relational contexts. \nThe next generation of research is helping us to understand: \n\ndynamic process-outcome relations over time\nclient characteristics as moderators of treatment effects\ncausal determinants of relationship qualities\nand how targeted treatment processes make a difference to an individual client’s outcome\n\nThis panel of experts will discuss these advances in science in a practitioner-friendly forum and consider how the practitioner is frequently “at the crossroads” in making decisions about processes in CBT. Audience feedback and questions will be central to shape the discussion even further. \nPanelists will discuss \n\nrelational and treatment processes in CBTs\nhow both relational and treatment processes are important for treatment delivery\nand share recommendations for training and supervision on the nested nature of relational and treatment processes\n(especially how treatment processes\, which are selected based on case formulation\, are adapted and based on the qualities of the therapeutic relationship).\n\nThe aims of the panel are \n\nto provide useful conceptual clarity\ninspire innovative research directions\noffer practical guidance for those in clinical\, supervision\, and training roles\n\nConvener / Chair: Nikolaos Kazantzis\, PhD\, Monash University\, Australia \nPanel Members\nKeith S. SUMMARY:In the Face of Adversity Build Resilience with Strengths-Based CBT (Germany 2019)
DESCRIPTION:BERLIN\, GERMANY – INVITED PRE-CONGRESS WORKSHOP by Christine A. Padesky\, PhD\, and Kathleen A. Mooney\, PhD presented at the 9th World Congress for Behavioural and Cognitive Therapies\nThis is a must attend event. Over 4\,000 delegates from 80 countries are registered to attend the World Congress. Held at the CityCube in Berlin.\nThe Conference is still in its organizing phase. Sign up for the Conference MAILING LIST and receive regular updates\, e-newsletters and notification of the opening of registration and submission of papers. \nDATE of Padesky-Mooney Workshop\nWednesday\, July 17\, 2019 from 9:00 am to 5:00 pm\n\nTITLE\nIn the Face of Adversity Build Resilience with Strengths-Based CBT\n\nPRE-CONGRESS WORKSHOP DESCRIPTION\n\nIn the face of adversity\, even the strongest among us sometimes find it hard to stay resilient. Some people have never felt resilient. In this workshop\, Padesky & Mooney teach a 4-step protocol to help clients build a personal model of resilience (PMR). Their protocol and model are easily integrated with classic CBT approaches and other evidence-based therapies. Drawing on the principles of Strengths-Based CBT (Padesky & Mooney\, 2012)\, six key methods are highlighted: (1) how to identify and integrate strengths into CBT\, (2) guided discovery approaches used to elicit a personal model of resilience\, (3) the timing and rationale for therapeutic smiling\, (4) use of imagery and metaphor\, (5) the importance of silence for fostering client creativity\, and (6) debriefing behavioral experiments through a resiliency lens.\n\nClinical demonstrations\, structured participant role plays\, and question & answer segments clarify the theory\, rationale\, methods and application of a PMR. Common therapy pitfalls are identified along with recommended alternative approaches.\n\n\n\nTogether\, Drs. Padesky and Mooney co-developed Strengths-based CBT (CBT-SB) Their creative partnership is at the core of all their individual\, joint and collaborative work projects since 1981.\n\n*ACTION ITEM*\nParticipants are strongly encouraged to download and read Padesky & Mooney’s 2012 article before attending the workshop. (CLICK HERE FOR PDF REPRINT). Greater familiarity with this material will foster increased depth of workshop learning (i.e.\, the more you know\, the more you will learn).\n\nKEY LEARNING OBJECTIVES\n1. Identify areas of client strengths that relate to resilience\n2. Practice guided discovery methods to elicit client-generated metaphors for resilience\n3. Build a personal model of resilience (PMR)\n4. Apply a personal model of resilience (PMR) to create win-win responses for acute and chronic life challenges\n\nIMPLICATIONS FOR EVERYDAY CLINICAL PRACTICE OF CBT\nThis strengths-based approach can be integrated within all forms of evidence-based psychotherapy practice. Just a few sessions is required to boost client awareness and practice of resilience. In addition\, there is evidence from pilot research (Victor\, Teismann\, & Willutzki\, 2017) that this 4-step model to build resilience can be used as a brief (3 session) independent intervention to build resilience\, self-esteem and well-being and reduce the risk of psychopathology in nonclinical populations such as university students.\n\nTRAINING & TEACHING MODALITIES\nLive clinical demonstrations\nStructured participant role plays\nDidactic teaching (with PowerPoint)\nWritten handouts\nQ & A\n\nKEY REFERENCES\nMooney\, K.A. & Padesky\, C.A. SUMMARY:Mind Over Mood: A Simple Path to Art and Science (USA 2019)
DESCRIPTION:SAN FRANCISCO\, CALIFORNIA \nPLEASE NOTE TIME CHANGE: BEGINS 8 am. Two hour workshop program presented by Christine Padesky\, PhD at the CAMFT 55th Annual Conference Advancing the Art and Science of Psychotherapy \n2 HOUR WORKSHOP: Mind Over Mood: A Simple Path to Art and Science \nThis workshop demonstrates how the 2nd Edition of Mind Over Mood (published in 2016) reflects developments in evidence-based practice over the past two decades and how it can help therapists integrate the art and science of psychotherapy. \nOBJECTIVES \n\nDESCRIBE the TWO SKILLS with the strongest evidence supporting their helpfulness for depression\nEXPLAIN why thought records are NOT a primary intervention for anxiety disorders\nNAME one type of client problem that is likely to benefit from acceptance methods\nDESCRIBE why it is better to use gratitude diaries weekly than daily\n\nDESCRIPTION: Many therapists turn to self-help manuals for ideas of how to teach skills that can boost client progress. How do you artfully tailor these manuals to fit the needs of an individual client? Padesky demonstrates how to make therapy more effective by selectively matching evidence-based skills to particular client moods and using mood measures to track progress. She shows therapists how to strategically assign chapters from the 2nd Edition of Mind Over Mood (Greenberger & Padesky\, 2016) which includes 60 worksheets designed to help clients learn skills drawn from CBT\, mindfulness\, positive psychology\, acceptance therapies\, and happiness research. \nPRESENTER: Dr Christine A Padesky \nLOCATION\nHyatt Regency – San Francisco Airport\n1333 Old Bayshore Hwy\nBurlingame\, CA 94010 \nSPONSOR: CAMFT 55th Annual Conference \nREGISTRATION: https://www.camft.org \n  \nSHARE with your Mental Health Colleagues

SUMMARY:Lights\, Camera\, Action: CBT for Anxiety (Vancouver 2018)
DESCRIPTION:2018 VANCOUVER\, CANADA –  two day / 11 hour workshop \nA new “Show Me” workshop presented this fall by Christine Padesky\nFor complete Workshop & On-line Registration Information visit https://www.cognitiveworkshops.com/cbt-for-anxiety \nWORKSHOP DESCRIPTION \nLIGHTS: When you shine a light on your therapy with anxious clients\, what do you see? Are the two of you leaning forward as participants in a thriller? Or is your client detailing a documentary of anxious moments while you flip through a mental script and try to figure out what your lines are supposed to be? This all new workshop teaches you how to light up your therapy for generalized anxiety disorder (GAD)\, panic disorder and social anxiety so you and your client are collaboratively engaged in viewing the central components of anxiety throughout therapy sessions. \nCAMERA: An important factor in successful anxiety treatment is a clear conceptualization. Is your therapy focused on a coherent understanding of what triggers and maintains anxiety or is there a shadowy darkness obscuring it? Just as a camera guides the viewer to focus on the most important elements of a film\, a coherent and individualized case conceptualization helps you and your client focus on the most important triggers and maintenance factors for anxiety. Learn how to collaboratively develop models for clearly understanding client experiences in GAD\, panic disorder and social anxiety. See how a good case conceptualization helps guide intervention choices so that each session helps move the client closer to a successful therapy outcome. \nACTION: CBT for anxiety relies on action-packed methods for its success. Learn how behavioral experiments\, imagery\, interactive writing\, and role plays can speed the pace of treatment progress. These methods lead to higher impact client learning than simply talking about anxiety and how to manage it. SUMMARY:Enhancing Group Therapy with Mind Over Mood (Canada 2018)
DESCRIPTION:WINNIPEG\, MANITOBA\, CANADA \nKeynote Address by Christine A. Padesky\, PhD. at the CGPA Conference \n \nWORKSHOP DESCRIPTION\nAre you curious how to use the 2nd edition of Mind Over Mood (Greenberger & Padesky\, 2016) in group therapy? Padesky illustrates two ways this award-winning cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT) self-help book can enhance group therapy\, whether you are a CBT therapist or not. One approach structures groups according to evidence-based principles for treating specific disorders (e.g.\, depression\, anxiety disorders) and incorporates Mind Over Mood as a group reference\, compendium of exercises and a relapse management resource. Her second strategy is to use this workbook to help people master relevant skill sets (e.g.\, acceptance\, behavioral activation\, thought records) via group therapy modules. The utility of each method depends on your clinical setting\, client needs and goals\, as well as your own knowledge base.\n \nSPONSOR\nCGPA: Group Therapy\, Group Training\, Group Facilitation\nWebsite: cgpa.ca\nTelephone: 866.433.9695\nEmail: admin@cgpa.ca \nREGISTRATION\nhttps://secure.e-registernow.com/cgi-bin/mkpayment.cgi?state=3266 \nPROGRAM BROCHURE\nhttps://gallery.mailchimp.com/a2c23a25eee9031190b45c841/files/f00af821-7bb9-43ec-9ee6-007c013bbb25/CGPA_Final_Brochure_2018_07_19.02.pdf \nDATE / TIME\nOctober 24\, 2018 / 9:00-10:00 am \nWORKSHOP FEES – $325 – $375 CAD \nSHARE with your Mental Health Colleagues

SUMMARY:Action-Packed CBT: More Walk Less Talk (Canada 2018)
DESCRIPTION:WINNIPEG\, MANITOBA\, CANADA \n2 Day / 12 hour workshop by Christine A. Padesky\, PhD. (Advanced Single Fee $315 until Sept 21). LINK to ONLINE BROCHURE (opens in new window) \nAction-Packed CBT: More Walk\, Less Talk – a new “Show Me!” workshop \nIs talking the best way to promote change and growth? We don’t tell toddlers how to walk or ask them how they feel about walking. We encourage and support trial and error experience. How often do you leave a workshop feeling inspired but unsure how to do anything different in your next session? \nThe phrase\, “action-packed CBT” describes a therapeutic approach that combines talk with active learning experiences embedded into each session. It is designed to make therapy more effective and to promote faster client change. \nPadesky demonstrates a variety of action methods that can enhance cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT) and other forms of psychotherapy. Like her other “Show Me” workshops\, she structures her teaching around clinical demonstrations rather than lectures. For each segment of the workshop\, she demonstrates particular methods so participating therapists can see exactly how Padesky conducts “action-packed” CBT. Structured exercises help therapists learn through experience how to implement action-oriented approaches. Thus\, “More walk and less talk.” Even so\, there is ample time for questions\, answers\, and discussion to promote a more complete understanding of how to apply these approaches with diverse clients in a variety of settings. \nAction methods demonstrated in this workshop include: interactive writing/drawing\, imagery\, role playing\, and behavioral experiments conducted both in and outside the office to test out beliefs and try new behaviors. A brainstorming section in the afternoon of the second day helps therapists discover how a variety of creative methods can be derived from these basic actions. Padesky guides workshop participants to develop a model over the course of the two days to help decide when to employ action approaches\, when listening and talk are the best interventions\, and what types of action are best suited to particular therapy purposes and goals. By the end of the workshop\, each participant has an opportunity to construct an individualized action plan for one of their own clients whose progress in therapy has stalled. \nJoin us this fall to observe and practice a variety of actions that promote client learning. Experience how action-packed therapy helps maximize client engagement\, discovery and change.\nSPONSOR\nHQS Professional Development\nwww.hqs-pd.ca\nBarbara Quesnel\, MSW\, RSW\nBarb@hqs.ca \nREGISTRATION\nwww.hqs-pd.ca \nDATE / TIME\nOctober 22 – 23\, 2018\n9:00 am – 4:30 pm \nWORKSHOP FEES – plenty of FREE parking\n$315 Early Single (until Sept 21)\n$295 Early Group (until Sept 21)\n$340 Full Registration Fee\n$320 Full Registration Group\n$225 Full-time Student \nTHIS WORKSHOP IS INTENDED FOR\nMental health professionals and graduate students in mental health fields. SUMMARY:Suicide Assessment\, Safety Planning\, and Treatment with CBT
DESCRIPTION:SAN ANGELO\, TEXAS / 2 Day\, 12 hour workshop \nDr. Christine Padesky will conduct a 2-day workshop focused on assessment\, safety-planning\, and treatment of suicide using CBT. This training is for licensed mental health providers and space will be limited. \nFollow this link for complete workshop description\, learning objectives\, and workshop schedule. \nREGISTRATION INFORMATION: Registration may be limited and individually determined. It may be necessary to prioritize attendees based on locality\, frequency of working with suicidal clients\, and preexisting partnerships with community Zero Suicide initiative. \nFor details\, please contact Tiffany Talley \, Director of Development & Community Relations\, San Angelo Counselling \nLEARNING OBJECTIVES: Participants learn to: \n\nUse a structured interview to assess suicide risk\nIdentify and strengthen reasons for living\nCollaboratively construct individualized safety plans\nIncorporate client strengths into treatment\nGuide clients in the creation of coping cards\nBuild hope using a “hope kit”\nIdentify and “spoil” suicidal imagery\nDevelop positive future imagery\nImplement a suicide relapse management plan\n\nWORKSHOP DESCRIPTION\nTherapists report greater anxiety about client suicide than any other clinical challenge. Unfortunately\, anxiety tends to foster avoidance. Therefore\, many therapists avoid asking in-depth questions about suicidal intent and do not learn how to effectively implement the detailed inquiries and interventions that are shown to decrease suicide risk. This workshop is designed to increase therapist confidence and ability to successfully address suicide in clinical practice. Many past participants have commented that this workshop helped save lives because they no longer feared interactions with suicidal clients and actually looked forward to practicing what they learned with their suicidal clients. \nAll therapists need to have a high level of skill in assessment of suicide risk. Participants in this workshop will be able to apply evidence-based methods for suicide assessment and implement interventions that can lower suicide risk\, reduce suicide attempts\, and increase client safety. Cognitive behavior therapy (CBT) methods taught include use of Jobes’ structured Suicide Status Form interview and a variety of creative cognitive and behavioral suicide interventions derived from the work of Aaron T. Although “best practices” always include some familiar practices\, this workshop is designed for therapists at all experience levels. It emphasizes strategies to manage common obstacles encountered by therapists working with suicidal clients and teaches nuanced applications of interventions to improve therapy outcomes even for the most experienced therapists. Join us for this state of the art workshop that reveals a wealth of “Best Practices in CBT for Suicide.” \n  \nSHARE with your Mental Health Colleagues

SUMMARY:Mind Over Mood: A Simple Path to Art and Science (USA 2018)
DESCRIPTION:GARDEN GROVE\, CALIFORNIA \nFour hour workshop program presented by Christine Padesky\, PhD at the CAMFT 54th Annual Conference Advancing the Art and Science of Psychotherapy \nWORKSHOP: (F2) Mind Over Mood: A Simple Path to Art and Science \nThis workshop demonstrates how the 2nd Edition of Mind Over Mood (published in 2016) reflects developments in evidence-based practice over the past two decades and how it can help therapists integrate the art and science of psychotherapy. \nPRESENTER: Dr Christine A Padesky \nLOCATION: Hyatt Regency Orange County\, 11999 Harbor Blvd\, Garden Grove\, CA 92840 \nSPONSOR: CAMFT 54th Annual Conference \nREGISTRATION: https://www.camft.org/ \n  \nSHARE with your Mental Health Colleagues
