SUMMARY:CBT Boot Camp 2.0: Target Mood-Specific Skills Using Mind Over Mood 2 (Los Angeles 2016)
DESCRIPTION:2016 Los Angeles\, California\, USA –  one day / 6 hour workshop \n  \nWORKSHOP DESCRIPTION \nEvidence-based practice requires therapists to teach mood-specific skills and follow different treatment guidelines depending upon the mood targeted. Clients experience high rates of comorbidity and so there is an advantage to supplementing therapy with a workbook like Mind Over Mood\, 2nd Edition\, 2016 (MOM2) which addresses a variety of moods and teaches both general and mood-specific skills. This workshop shows therapists how to maintain fidelity to treatment protocols by assigning MOM2 chapters in different orders depending upon the moods addressed. Therapists learn which mood-specific skills are linked to enduring treatment efficacy for depression\, anxiety disorders\, anger\, guilt and shame. \nIn addition\, Padesky demonstrates how to navigate common obstacles that arise during use of: behavioral activation and thought records (depression); fear ladders\, exposure\, identification of safety behaviors\, and behavioral experiments (anxiety); assertive communication and forgiveness (anger); seriousness ratings\, responsibility pies\, reparations and self-forgiveness (guilt and shame). Guidelines are presented for how and when to add methods drawn from acceptance therapies\, mindfulness and positive psychology to these classic CBT approaches. Participants learn evidence-based guidelines for client skills practice\, when certain interventions can be counter-therapeutic\, and a 3-step plan for relapse management. \nParticipants in this workshop will be among the first USA therapists to learn directly from Dr. Padesky about how to link the new version of Mind Over Mood with evidence based treatment protocols.\nWorkshop learning is enhanced through live clinical demonstrations\, structured participant role-plays\, discussions and exercises designed to apply the principles learned to clinical case material. \nLearn how to use MOM2 in therapy to work more effectively with depression\, anxiety disorders\, anger\, guilt\, and shame.\nLEARNING OBJECTIVES: Upon completion of training\, participants can be expected to: \n\nIDENTIFY skills empirically linked to improvement in depression and anxiety\nASSESS client views of moods and treatment options in culturally sensitive manner\nLINK chapter reading order in MOM2 to treatment protocols\nFOLLOW evidence-based guidelines for gratitude diaries\, mindfulness practice\, and other treatment methods\nCONSIDER when a focus on forgiveness is therapeutic and when it is not\nASSIST clients in following a 3-step plan for relapse management\n\nINTENDED AUDIENCE\nSolely for DMH psychologists employed within LA County DMH or DMH Contract Agencies. Registration is limited to DMH Employees. \nWORKSHOP SPONSOR\nLos Angeles County Department of Mental Health\nWorkforce Education & Training Division\nJeff Gorsuch\, PsyD \nPRESENTER – Christine A. SUMMARY:CBT Boot Camp: Building Core Clinical Competencies (Denmark 2013)
DESCRIPTION:COPENHAGEN\, DENMARK \nSponsor’s Website (in Danish) \nCBT Boot Camp is especially designed for novice and intermediate level CBT therapists who want to build and strengthen core clinical competencies as well as understand more clearly how these competencies function as the foundation for all CBT protocols. \nSponsored by: Skolen for Kognitiv Adfærdsterapi\, Region Hovedstadens Psykiatri \nCOURSE OVERVIEW: Cognitive behavioural therapy (CBT) offers a rapidly expanding collection of therapy protocols tailored to specific disorders. Learning these can be a daunting task for CBT therapists. Fortunately\, all CBT treatments involve core competencies (Roth & Pilling\, 2007). Once these competencies are mastered\, it becomes comparatively easy to learn protocols for specific client disorders. \nBy the end of Boot Camp\, participants will achieve greater CBT fitness in the areas of: therapy structure and alliance\, client observation and self-monitoring\, awareness of safety behaviors versus good coping\, assigning and debriefing relevant homework\, and use of guided discovery methods (such as Socratic dialogue\, thought records\, and behavioral experiments). \nDr. Padesky also demonstrates therapeutic responses to common therapy obstacles that often derail CBT progress. Following her demonstrations\, participants engage in “obstacle courses” which are exercises designed to help therapists apply the appropriate core competency in the face of these challenges. \nCBT Boot Camp features innovative participant exercises that approach familiar topics in novel ways. Workshop learning is enhanced through live and video clinical demonstrations\, structured participant exercises\, and handouts. As always\, this workshop is infused with Dr. Padesky’s signature warmth\, humour\, and an emphasis on practical clinical tips. \nRoth\, A.D.\, & Pilling\, S. (2007). SUMMARY:CBT Boot Camp: Building Core Clinical Competencies (Canada 2012)
DESCRIPTION:EDMONTON\, CANADA \n\n\n\nCBT Boot Camp is especially designed for novice and intermediate level CBT therapists who want to build and strengthen core clinical competencies as well as understand more clearly how these competencies function as the foundation for all CBT protocols. \n\n\n\n\n\nNOTE: as of October 2015\, we now offer Boot Camp 2.0 \n\n\n\nCOURSE OVERVIEW: Cognitive behavioural therapy (CBT) offers a rapidly expanding collection of therapy protocols tailored to specific disorders. Learning these can be a daunting task for CBT therapists. Fortunately\, all CBT treatments involve core competencies (Roth & Pilling\, 2007). Once these competencies are mastered\, it becomes comparatively easy to learn protocols for specific client disorders. By the end of Boot Camp\, participants will achieve greater CBT fitness in the areas of: therapy structure and alliance\, client observation and self-monitoring\, awareness of safety behaviors versus good coping\, assigning and debriefing relevant homework\, and use of guided discovery methods (such as Socratic dialogue\, thought records\, and behavioral experiments). Dr. Padesky also demonstrates therapeutic responses to common therapy obstacles that often derail CBT progress. Following her demonstrations\, participants engage in “obstacle courses” which are exercises designed to help therapists apply the appropriate core competency in the face of these challenges. CBT Boot Camp features innovative participant exercises that approach familiar topics in novel ways. Workshop learning is enhanced through live and video clinical demonstrations\, structured participant exercises\, and handouts. As always\, this workshop is infused with Dr. Padesky’s signature warmth\, humour\, and an emphasis on practical clinical tips. \n\n\n\nREFERENCES: Roth\, A.D.\, & Pilling\, S. (2007).
