The landmark text Cognitive Therapy of Personality Disorders (2nd ed) identifies the growing research base that supports the use of cognitive therapy to treat personality disorders. Yet, client processes such as avoidance, rigidity, and angry attacks pose challenges to the therapy. In Camp CTPD, we present a cognitive paradigm for working with personality disorders that Drs. Padesky and Mooney have been actively developing over the past fifteen years. We emphasize aspects of cognitive theory and therapy that enhance treatment flexibility and client learning. We teach how to:
Therapist awareness and ability to manage one’s own responses is a critical skill in the successful treatment of personality disorders. Therapists can become trapped in frustration, hopelessness, anger, hurt or resentment. Camp participants work individually and in small groups to identify and evaluate therapists beliefs and behaviors that contribute to therapy impasse. We emphasize experiential practice. Learning at Camp CTPD is enriched by a mixture of clinical demonstrations, structured participant exercises, didactic presentations, video segments, observations and analyses of personal and interpersonal clinical processes, work groups, and selected readings. The workshop is limited to 32 people and is expected to fill quickly, so apply soon! |

| Excellent experience! Finally an
advanced course that lives up to its billing. It is clear that the
instructors put a great deal of time into the Camp.
My attitude toward working with personality disorders shifted to a more compassionate approach and optimism - change is possible. A great opportunity to meet experts from all over the world. Draws together many of the threads in past Camps in a very clear and meaningful way. It is exciting to see how the material has both matured and become more elegant. I got help working with particular personality disorders that push my buttons. Feels like leading edge of clinical practice. Excellent way to further CBT skills. Camp gives me the knowledge to teach and write about CT. I was both challenged and felt supported. I think this Camp was the best of all the Camps I have attended… It was perfect. I filled up my yellow pad with meaningful notes and strategies. Challenged some of my negative assumptions about what is possible. I came feeling discouraged about how I was treating personality disorders and am leaving feeling energized and eager to apply these skills. Not only theory, but good practice. Camp is my most meaningful continuing education experience; I look forward to it each year. Outstanding, wonderful, superb. Thank you for a great week of learning and fun. |
