The Center for Cognitive Therapy

The Center for Cognitive Therapy was founded in 1983 by Christine A. Padesky and Kathleen A. Mooney after a request from Aaron T. Beck, M.D. (the founder of Cognitive Therapy) to open a therapy and training center in Southern California.

Dr. Christine Padesky is internationally respected as one of the world's leading Cognitive Therapy instructors. She has presented over 325 workshops to more than 35,000 professionals throughout North America and Europe including five of the World Congresses of Cognitive Therapy (Sweden, England, Canada, Denmark, and Mexico) as well as 25 presentations with cognitive therapy's founder, Dr. Aaron T. Beck.

She provides worldwide consultation to mental health professionals, community mental health centers, cognitive therapy centers, clinics, hospitals, HMO's and cognitive behavioral therapy researchers. Dr. Padesky served as a consultant to a public television psychology telecourse and is former chair of the California Psychology Association's Division of Training and Education.

Dr. Padesky develops audio and video training materials that demonstrate cognitive therapy processes and protocols. She is a featured therapist in several award-winning educational films.

From 1998 to 2003 Dr. Padesky was an Assistant Clinical Professor in the Department of Psychiatry and Human Behavior at the University of California, Irvine.

Clinical specialties include cognitive therapy for anxiety disorders, psychophysiological problems (as well as health worries), personality disorders, relationships, stress management, lesbian/gay issues, and therapy for therapists

In addition to numerous presentations and workshops on anxiety, depression, health worries, core belief development and change, therapist / client relationship factors, personality disorders, resilience, supervision, and underlying assumptions, Dr. Mooney has presented at workshops and international meetings in Denmark, England, Ireland, Italy, the Netherlands, New Zealand, Northern Ireland, Scotland, Sweden and Switzerland.

Dr. Mooney is a former member of the Executive Board of the International Association for Cognitive Psychotherapy (IACP) and retired Editor of the IACP News as well as the International Cognitive Therapy Newsletter.
